There was gridlock on separate stretches of the Merritt Parkway Saturday evening in Fairfield County after crashes that took out the left lanes before being cleared.

The first incident occurred on the southbound side at Route 104/Long Ridge Road (Exit 34) in Stamford. There were stop-and-go delays to High Ridge Road (Exit 35) until the lane reopened around 7 p.m.

Shortly after that incident, a crash blocked a lane on the southbound Merritt in Norwalk at Main Avenue (Exit 40), with stopped traffic at the scene and stop-and-go delays to Route 33 (Exit 41) at 7 p.m. The lane was cleared by 8 p.m.
