NORWALK, Conn. -- The Norwalk Senior Legion Post 12 baseball team has been brought to the brink of elimination in the Northeast Regional Tournament. Two Norwalk errors in the second inning led to three runs for Bedford, N.H. The offense could not back up Mike Parlanti, who allowed just two earned runs, as Norwalk fell into the losers bracket with a 4-2 loss.
Bedford pitching stymied Norwalk all evening, racking up 10 strikeouts between starter Tom Hudson and closer Spencer Damon. Norwalk's six-through-nine hitters combined to hit just 1-for-13 on the night.
The game got off to a promising start when Matt Ederle clocked a home run to left to give Norwalk a brief 1-0 lead. Post 12's only other run was unearned when Kevin Cawley scored on an error in the second.
Parlanti surrendered a home run in the third, but was otherwise very effective. The Norwalk righty struck out five in 8 1/3 innings, but could not get the run support he needed.
Norwalk now moves to the losers bracket, where they will take on Whitestown, N.Y. on Sunday at 1 p.m. If they are victorious on Sunday, they will need to win both games of the championship doubleheader on Monday to take the Northeast Regional title.
