Norwalk Schools Names Interim Leader For Special Education Services

NORWALK, Conn. -- Norwalk Public Schools has named Joseph Russo as the interim director of pupil personnel services, beginning Aug. 1, 2015.

Russo will lead the department responsible for overseeing Special Education services in Norwalk Public Schools, while the search is underway for a permanent director. Russo joined Norwalk in 2011, and currently serves as assistant director of special education and pupil personnel services.

Prior to joining Norwalk, he served in Greenwich Public Schools as a high school housemaster from 2007 to 2011, and as program administrator for special education from 1998 to 2007. From 1987 to 1998, he was principal of Henry Viscardi School in Albertson, N.Y.

His other experience include roles as a supervisor of student teaching, an English and social studies teacher, a remedial reading teacher, and a special education resource room teacher. He holds two degrees from Teachers College, Columbia University: a Master of Arts in learning disabilities, and a Master of Education in reading and learning disabilities. He earned his Bachelor of Arts in English from Iona College.
