Five different sections of the course will be offered, with the first beginning Sept. 7. The extended studies program helps ready students for opportunities in new careers by awarding certificates in fast-growing fields, such as health care, information technology, real estate, travel, small business startup and enterprise management.

The 108-hour, 12-session course includes 36 hours of classroom instruction and 72 hours of practical hands-on training in a laboratory and clinical setting, which enables students to deliver all aspects of personal care. Students learn about the physical and emotional changes of the aging process. Upon satisfactory completion of all academic and clinical requirements, students are eligible to apply for the state certificate to work in long-term care facilities.
