NORWALK, Conn. -- All parents are invited to a two-part workshop about keeping children safe from drug abuse offered by the Courage to Speak Foundation on Nov. 15 and Nov. 17 at West Rocks Middle School in Norwalk.

The free parenting course is meant to give parents information about when drug use can start and how to talk to children about drugs, among other related topics. A light dinner at 5:30 p.m. precedes the sessions.

The first of the two-session course will be taught by Larry Katz, former social worker with the State of Connecticut, Child Welfare Division, and co-founder of the Courage to Speak Foundation. As a prelude to the course, Ginger Katz, CEO and founder of the Courage to Speak  Foundation will deliver the Courage to Speak presentation at 6 p.m. on Nov. 15.

Session two will continue at 6 p.m. Nov. 17 at the school, 81 West Rocks Road. The course will be taught by Carlos Reinoso Jr.

Child care will be available with reservation. The sessions offer information on effective communication, setting rules and dealing with substance use.

Information from the workshop covers the teen drug party culture, warning signs of drug use and reducing risks of drug use. For more details, contact Ginger Katz at (203) 831-9700 or email gkatz@couragetospeak.org , or visit the website .
