The incident took place around 3 p.m. Monday when Regina Solomon, 32, of New Haven, ordered a sandwich and calzone at Krauszer’s Food Store, 36 Fairview Avenue, according to Hamden Police Capt. Ronald Smith.

According to the investigation, Solomon was upset at the price of the sandwich. She then proceeded behind the deli counter and began yelling at the clerk about the amount of meat in the sandwich. Solomon and an unidentified male then attempted to leave the store without paying for the sandwich and the calzone, Smith said.

As the store owner attempted to intervene, Solomon “grabbed a belt off the rack” and began hitting him multiple times, he added.

The unidentified man, who is described as a tall black male with braided hair, punched the store owner numerous times. The store owner sustained injuries to his arms and hands, police said.

Shortly after, Hamden Police Officer Jennifer King identified Solomon and arrested her for robbery, assault, and larceny.

Solomon, who was released after posting a $1,000 bond, is scheduled to appear in Meriden Superior Court on Oct. 2.

Anyone with information about the unidentified male is asked to contact Officer Jennifer King at (203) 230-4030.
