NORWALK, Conn. -- The Norwalk Police Department said goodbye to one of their retired service dogs on Monday.
Service dog Arasz had served the Norwalk Police Department from May 2008 until his retirement in December 2013.
Arasz, who was handled by Sgt. Sophia Gulino, served as a patrol and explosive detection K9 throughout his police career.
He spent his retired life with Gulino and her family.
He spent his last moments sharing a sandwich with Gulino while sitting in the rear of a Norwalk police cruiser.
"He was given the honor of representing and protecting the City Of Norwalk during his last moments, which is the desire of every Police Service Dog," the department said in a Facebook post.
Police did not release details on why Arasz was euthanized.
