Norwalk Police Identify Pedestrian Killed In Hit-And-Run Accident

NORWALK, Conn. -- Police have identified the victim of Friday night's fatal hit-and-run accident as 43-year-old Osmin Bonilla of Norwalk.

Hugo Cruz-Gregorio, 33, of Norwalk was arrested on numerous charges after a hit-and-run fatal accident on Woodward Avenue Friday night, including second-degree manslaughter, DUI and evading.

Bonilla was one of three pedestrians hit by a pickup truck Friday evening near 50 Woodward Ave., police said.

Officers arrested Hugo Cruz-Gregorio, 33, of Norwalk in the death. He was charged with second-degree manslaughter with a motor vehicle, evading resulting in death, evading resulting in property damage, driving under the influence, unsafe movement of a motor vehicle, operating an unregistered motor vehicle and operating without a license. He was held on $750,000 bond and will appear in court Oct. 31.

Cruz-Gregorio struck the three pedestrians and then attempted to flee the scene, police said. He was quickly apprehended in the area of Chestnut Street and Monroe Street, police said. He had a blood alcohol level of .083, according to police.

First responders arrived and began administering aid to Bonilla, as well as the two other victims: a 33-year-old Bridgeport man and a 51-year-old Norwalk woman.

All three were taken to Norwalk Hospital, where Bonilla was pronounced dead. The other two were treated and released, police said.
