NEW CANAAN, Conn. -- New Canaan Police Chief Leon Krolikowski warned dog owners to closely supervise their pets after an encounter between a pet dog and a coyote on Tuesday, according to a report in the New Canaan Advertiser.

Krolikowski said the encounter occurred around 6:45 a.m. on Autumn Lane between a medium-sized dog and the coyote. The dog's owner frightened the coyote by screaming and charging toward it, Animal Control Officer Allyson Halm told the paper.
