NORWALK, Conn. -- June (Feilner) Checkovich, a former resident of Norwalk, died Sunday, Dec. 20. She was 93.

Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., Checkovich was the daughter of Frank H. Feilner and Caroline Kilian Feilner.

She was a graduate of Amityville High School and the Katharine Gibbs School in New York. She lived in a number of communities on Long Island in her youth.

She was a resident of Norwalk for nearly 50 years, where she raised her family and was a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church.

Since 2000, she has resided in Southbury.

She is survived by her identical twin sister, Trudi (Gertrude) Thorp of Long Island; three daughters, Judith Conti of Wisconsin, Diane Wodehouse and Irene Checkovich of Massachusetts; four grandchildren, Christopher and Andrew DiMichele of Connecticut, Lisa Wodehouse of Massachusetts and Joseph Conti of Wisconsin; and her great-grandchildren, Juliana, Alexandria, Andrew, Giovanna and Shane.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Andrew Checkovich; and her youngest daughter, Patricia Laukaitis.

Calling hours will be held at the Collins Funeral Home, 92 East Ave., Norwalk, on Monday, Dec. 28, from 11 to noon; followed by a brief service and burial at Riverside Cemetery, 81 Riverside Ave., Norwalk.
