NORWALK, Conn. – Donald E. Nicholson Jr. of Norwalk died Jan. 19 in Vermont. He was 57.
Born Aug. 10, 1955, in Greenwich, he was the son of Donald E. Nicholson Sr. and the late Iva Benham Nicholson. He graduated from Brien McMahon High School in 1973.
Nicholson received an associate's degree from Norwalk Technical College and a bachelor's degree in engineering from Fairfield University.
He worked as a mechanical design engineer for Northrup Grumman and ITT Exelis. A sports car enthusiast, he was a Sports Car Club of America regional champion, his family said. He was also a member of the Nutmeg Curling Club.
Nicholson was a lifelong skier and a mountain ambassador at Killington Ski Resort in Vermont, where he died doing what he loved, his family said.
Nicholson is survived by his father; a son, Donald Vaccaro, of Elizabeth, N.J.; a daughter, Lauren Vaccaro, of Elizabeth; his long-time girlfriend, Ann K. Glaser; a sister, Leah (Pete) Kuhn, of East Granby, Conn.; a nephew and a niece.
Visitation is from 9 to 11 a.m., Saturday, at Collins Funeral Home in Norwalk. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Vermont Adaptive Ski and Sports .
