NORWALK, Conn. A severely injured baby was brought into the Norwalk Hospital Emergency Room Monday. Norwalk Police arrested her mother Thursday.
Jamie Lane, 22, of 5 Avenue E, was charged with first-degree assault to a minor and risk of injury to a minor, both felonies. Bond was $75,000.
The 5-month-old badly bruised baby girl was brought to the hospital by her grandparents, Norwalk Police say. The baby had a fractured skull, a fractured arm, and seven fractured ribs, injuries that did not appear to be accidental.
"It's a pretty sad case, one of the worst ones I've seen in my 23 years of service," said Lt. Ashley Gonzalez, commander of the youth bureau.
The baby, who is in the custody of the Department of Children and Families, was released from the hospital Thursday. "The child is actually doing well," Gonzalez said. "It's a good sign that they can release her that quickly."
The child and her mother and father live with her grandparents. Gonzalez said there is an indication that family members knew about the abuse and there may be more arrests. Police are looking into how old the injuries are.
Gonzalez said, "It's incomprehensible that a child this age could be subjected to that type of treatment."
