On Tuesday, temperatures climbed to 94 degrees in Bridgeport, breaking the Sept. 8 record of 90, which was set in 2010, according to NBC Connecticut.
That was second warmest temperature ever recorded in Bridgeport in September, NBC said.
The high temperature reached 96 degrees in Windsor Locks, breaking the Sept. 8 record of 95 degrees for the Hartford area, which was set in 2007, NBC Connecticut said.
Schools in Bridgeport, Danbury and Norwalk dismissed students early on Tuesday due to the heat.
The heat wave is expected to continue Wednesday, with high temperatures near 90 degrees under sunny skies.
Temperatures are about 10 degrees above normal for this time of year, the National Weather Service said.
Clouds and humidity will increase Wednesday afternoon, bringing a chance of scattered showers and thunderstorms late Wednesday, the weather service said.
Widespread rain, heavy at times, is in the forecast for Thursday, the National Weather Service said, with temps in the mid-80s.
