Eversource: Large Power Outage Strikes Central Norwalk

UPDATED: Power has been restored to most customers in Norwalk by 3 p.m., Eversource said.

NORWALK — Nearly a thousand customers are without power Wednesday afternoon in central Norwalk, according to Eversource. 

The large outage is affecting 921 customers, or about 3 percent of the city, as of 1 p.m., Eversource said. 

The Norwalk Police Department said the power outage in the Wall Street/West Avenue area. 

"Crews [are] on scene working to restore power, which is expected to be out for at least a few hours," Norwalk police said via Twitter.

The Norwalk Library on Belden Avenue is closed due to the outage. (The South Norwalk Branch on Washington Avenue is open until 5:30 p.m.)

The outage has knocked out traffic lights as well as the power to the Norwalk courthouse, where work was suspended until power was restored, The Hour said. 

Eversource did not have information on when power would be restored on Wednesday, as temperatures dipped into the low 20s.
