The court charged Rocky Samas, also known as ‘Twin,’ with one count of possession with intent to distribute 28 grams or more of cocaine base (‘crack’) and one count of possession with intent to distribute cocaine on Monday, Nov. 19.
Court documents allege that investigators conducted three separate and controlled purchases of crack cocaine between August and October from Samas, 47-year-old Bridgeport resident.
Samas, who has a prior federal narcotics conviction, was arrested Tuesday, Nov. 6, as a result of a federal criminal complaint. The same day, investigators searched his Bridgeport home and confiscated crack and powder cocaine.
If Samas is convicted, he faces a mandatory minimum imprisonment of 10 years and a maximum of life for the crack cocaine charge. He also faces a maximum term of 40 years for the powder cocaine charge.
This case is investigated by the Drug Enforcement Administration’s Bridgeport High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA) Task Force as well as the police departments of Stamford and Bridgeport.
However, U.S. Attorney Durham stressed that an indictment does not serve as evidence of guilt. These charges are allegations, and as always, the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
