Ten men were arrested this week on federal drug trafficking charges, John Durham, the United States Attorney for the Southern District, announced. The arrests came following the investigation by the FBI, ATF and Waterbury Police Department.

Durham said that the investigation was targeting violent offenders and drug traffickers in Waterbury. “This level of cooperation between state and federal prosecutors, the FBI, the Waterbury Police Department, and the ATF, has been extraordinary,” he said in a statement.

Officials said that investigators “employed various investigative techniques, including purchases of drugs by confidential sources, seizures of drugs during motor vehicle stops, surveillance, and court-authorized wiretaps on (cellphones).”

The men arrested include:

  • Waterbury resident Cyrus Bradford, 41;
  • Waterbury resident Lee Brocket, 30;
  • Waterbury resident Tarell Thomas, 29;
  • Oakville resident Alexander Calderon, 22;
  • Waterbury resident Laval Thomas, 31;
  • Waterbury resident Felix Colon, 20;
  • New Fairfield resident Thomas “TJ” Moruzin, 28;
  • Waterbury resident Demain Brockett, 20; and
  • Waterbury resident Jason Brockett, 45.

Each has been charged with conspiracy to distribute a detectable amount of cocaine and heroin. If found guilty, they will face up to 20 years in prison. They are due to appear in court at a later date to answer the charge.

“This joint investigation is an example of how things are supposed to be done, and the results speak for themselves,” said Waterbury State’s Attorney, Maureen Platt.  Platt said that she, and state prosecutors from her office, expect to continue to work closely with federal prosecutors on this case, and others.
