It certainly did for Thomas Maher, of Norwalk, who won $30,000 on day one of his family vacation.

Maher and his wife, Leze Zadrima, met while working for the Metropolitan Transportation Authority and consider themselves a proud “railroad family.” All that hard work led to some much needed time off, only made better by the lottery win.

Waking his wife from a nap, Maher exclaimed, “’Look I hit it! I guarantee we’ll hit the whole card! My son said ‘It’s 30,000!’ There was lots of screaming and crying."

Maher said in a press release he will spread the winnings around..

“Little of everything — the pool will go up, home improvements — but a little spending spree first.”

Maher’s family left for its vacation shortly after meeting with lottery officials, but not before dancing and cheering throughout the lobby of the state's lottery headquarters.

For selling the winning ticket, In and Out Variety, 178 Main St., Norwalk, will receive a $300 check from the state lottery.
