Designed to help students practice self-care, build life skills and stay engaged and healthy during the unstructured summer months, the two week day camp will offer attendees the chance to experience the outdoors and foster adventure to promote lifestyle changes.

Comprised of equal parts physical and mental rejuvenation, the camp will provide teens the chance to experiment with meditation, music therapy and yoga, as well as enjoy hiking, gardening and other outdoor activities. The diverse curriculum stems from several studies that have shown the positive impact of nature and the outdoors on emotional well-being. Conversely, physical inactivity is closely associated with the development of psychological disorders. As a result, being inactive puts teens at a higher risk of developing detrimental mental health conditions.

With this insight in mind, the mental health experts at Newport Academy have specifically designed the upcoming Adventure Camp to immerse teens in nature and activity to promote positive development and responsible decision making. Campers will have the opportunity to paddleboard the Long Island Sound, hike the area's surrounding trails, plant and maintain a garden and enjoy various other outdoor projects.

In addition to enjoying time in nature, campers will also be given the opportunity to volunteer with local nonprofits. By engaging in charitable work, teens will be able to discover potentially hidden passions while undertaking projects that make a positive communal difference.

Newport Academy's Adventure Camp will be held in Darien, Conn. from July 23 - Aug. 2 and Aug. 13 - 23. For more information or to register, call Robin Seymour at 203-644-4605.
