NORWALK, Conn. -- The South Norwalk Library, 10 Washington St., will host a pair of events Saturday:
- Geronimo Stilton's Birthday from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. All kids and adults who want to be kids again are invited to Geronimo Stilton's birthday party. Join us for hilarious moments with Danny Magic and birthday cake. Registration is required and is available online or by calling 203-899-2790 Ext. 15903.
- "Selma," from 2-5 p.m. The Norwalk Youth Council of the NAACP will host a screening of the movie "Selma." Despite the Civil Rights Act of 1964 legally desegregating the South, discrimination still was rampant in certain areas, making it very difficult for blacks to register to vote. The movie tells the story of how Martin Luther King Jr., despite violent opposition, led the epic march from Selma to Montgomery, Ala. to secure equal voting rights in an event that forever altered history. Their efforts prompted President Lyndon B. Johnson to sign to the Voting Rights Act of 1965. Popcorn will be provided and a discussion, led by the Youth Council, will follow the screening. Registration is required and is available online or by calling 203-899-2790 Ext. 15902.
