FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. -- Cloudy skies and light rain will give way to showers and thunderstorms in Fairfield County Thursday and Friday.

Periods of light rain can be expected Thursday morning, with breaks in the precipitation and the cloud cover this afternoon, according to the National Weather Service. The day will be mostly cloudy, with a light east wind. Temperatures will reach highs in the mid-60s to around 70 inland, with highs in the lower 60s along the coast.

Another round of precipitation will hit Thursday evening into Friday as a cold front approaches from the west. The chance of precipitation Thursday night is 80 percent, with showers and thunderstorms possible after 4 a.m. The low will be around 46.

The rain will continue into Friday, with showers likely and a thunderstorm possible before 10 a.m. There will be scattered showers throughout the day, as well as patchy fog before noon. The chance of precipitation is 70 percent. The high will be near 59, with a northeast wind around 5 to 8 mph. Dry weather will return Friday night, which is expected to be mostly cloudy with a low around 45.

Residents will get a respite from the rain on Saturday, which is expected to be partly sunny, with a high near 58. Saturday night will see a 30 percent chance of light rain after midnight, which will be mostly cloudy with a low around 43.

There is a 40 percent chance of light rain on Sunday, which will be cloudy with a high near 54. Sunday night will be cloudy with a low around 42.
