Clouds will lower and thicken quickly after midnight with light precipitation developing toward daybreak, the weather service said. Light snow, with up to an inch or so of accumulation, is expected to cover inland area, with a rain and snow mix for coastal Connecticut.

Any snow over the interior will quickly change to rain later Monday morning as warm air moves in, the forecast said.  All precipitation will end by early afternoon.

The highest snowfall amounts are expected along I-84, with an inch or slightly more expected from Danbury to Newtown to Waterbury, the weather service said.

There is a  50 percent chance of light snow overnight, with an 80 percent chance of rain and snow likely before 9 a.m., then a 30 percent chance of rain between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. The high temperature will be near 45 degrees, but with wind chills of 30 to 40.

Monday night will be partly cloudy, with temps dropping to about 28 degrees.

On Tuesday, there is a 20 percent chance of light rain in the afternoon as clouds increase with a high near 41. Rain is likely before midnight, changing to rain and snow overnight.

On Wednesday, there is a 30 percent chance of more rain before noon, according to the National Weather Service.
