How Did The Blizzard Stack Up In Norwalk?

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. — It was billed as a blizzard, expected to drop up to 2 feet of snow across Fairfield County on Tuesday. In the end, while it was certainly the worst storm of the season, it came up short in the snowfall totals.

And it was still causing problems early Wednesday. Residual snow and slush was refreezing overnight, resulting in hazardous conditions on roads and walkways, the National Weather Service said. Residents were urged to use extra caution when venturing out.

But the daylong snowstorm Tuesday was a mixed bag. Schools and workplaces were closed. The state issued a travel ban on highways and Metro-North suspended service.

The National Weather Service had placed all of Fairfield County under a Blizzard Warning as the storm began before dawn Tuesday. But the NWS quickly downgraded that to a Winter Storm Warning along the shoreline of Fairfield County.

The accumulation impressive in the northern part of Fairfield County, where the snow shifted from small and icy to big and flaky as strong winds blew. But the storm petered out some along the coast, where it turned to ice pellets with some rain.
