FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. -- Fairfield County residents will have to deal with unseasonably cold temperatures Tuesday along with a strong possibility of showers and cloudy skies.

Showers are likely to hit the region today, according to the National Weather Service. The chance of precipitation is 60 percent, with rainfall of a quarter- to half-inch possible. The air will be very cold for this time of year, with a high near 53 expected. Tuesday night will be cloudy, with a low around 46 and a 30 percent chance of showers.

Wednesday will be a bit of an improvement. After a cloudy start, the day will begin to clear up and become mostly sunny by the afternoon. Temperatures will recover as well, with a high of 68 expected. There is a 20 percent chance of showers in the morning. Wednesday night will see a 30 percent chance of showers or drizzle, mainly after midnight. Otherwise the night will be partly cloudy with a low around 50.

Thursday will see a 20 percent chance of showers or drizzle. The rest of the day will be partly sunny, with a high near 67. Thursday night will be mostly cloudy with a low around 53. Friday is expected to be mostly sunny, with a high near 70.
