FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. – In the worst snowstorm of the year and perhaps of the century, at least 30 inches of snow blanketed Fairfield County in one 24-hour period during Nemo, which hit in early February.

The storm set records for several towns in Fairfield County, including Fairfield, where 35 inches of snow was recorded. That eclipsed the previous Connecticut record of 30 inches in a 24-hour period set at Falls Village in 1969, the National Weather Service said.

Nemo lasted from Friday, Feb. 8, into Monday, Feb. 11, and canceled school for two days to allow towns to clean the roads enough to be safe for buses.

In March, Gov. Dannel Malloy announced that President Barack Obama had approved a request for a major disaster declaration for federal aid in connection with the blizzard.
