As a resident of the area, this initiative has my full support. The argument that kids should be taught to walk in the road is feeble in this case. There are many categories of pedestrian that are at risk walking in this stretch of road, with totally inadequate sidewalks. And this stretch of road is of particular concern because the speeding and otherwise reckless driving there is so rampant, and goes largely unchecked by police - especially racing motorcycles. It's harrowing at best to walk there under any circumstances, whether you're a student or an adult with a stroller..whatever. Either improve the walkway and bike way, and/or crack down on the reckless driving for once. View Comment

Agreed. The fee for out of town passes should at least be higher, and limit the crowds. Every day of the season, there is overflowing garbage and litter strewn everywhere. I have seen people unloading their own gas grills from minivans into the park. It's ridiculous. View Comment

I agree that crime in this town is way out of control. I'm especially angry that earlier in the summer I read here that there were no funds available to have proper litter control and police patrol in the beach area. Yet here I see that $4000 was spent on a tent. As a resident of the beach area, the whole thing is outrageous. Where are the priorities of this administration? View Comment

I live near the beach and walk in the area regularly, which means regularly picking up litter on street and at the beach, and I do it gladly. But I am dismayed that every single time I'm out there, Shady beach especially, there is litter strewn everywhere. Yes, people should do their part to keep it clean - and it's disheartening that so few people do. That said, the city owes it to taxpayers to keep the streets and parks clean - plain and simple. It's out of control, and taxes are high enough that I'm insulted to hear the administration shrug the responsibility. View Comment
