I find that most of the anti gun group are cowards that need to disarm others to make them feel important they are actually terrified of their own shadow View Comment
Fact: Semi-automatic rifles as used in the tragedy are not used by any military who equip their soldiers with fully automatic rifles. Your premise is incorrect.
Fact: 60% of deaths attributed to firearms are suicides. Suicide rates are independent of firearm ownership as those serious about suicide use other methods. Example: Japan has 2x the suicide rate yet very low firearm ownership.
Fact: No state with stricter gun control laws has a lower violent crime rate. View Comment
One needs to wonder why the daily is allowing the anti gun propaganda which is clearly being posted by paid trolls of the CSGV (Bloomberg). View Comment
Chicago had a ban on handguns for over 20 years, how is that not strict?
The only reason they're not banned right now is because the Supreme Court found it unconstitutional in McDonald v Chicago. View Comment
Its designed to expel a projectile (typically made of lead with a copper jacket) that weighs typically between 115-147 grains to a velocity of between 1000-1300 fps.
Its designed to be held in one hand & be more portable than a rifle though with the limitations of size it is less accurate & less powerful.
Anything more than that is dependent upon use of the person who is in possession of it. View Comment
I have linked below what the state police report are the firearms recovered from the scene.

Weakest? They had a complete ban on handguns for 30 years until it was overturned by the Supreme Court 2 years ago. There still aren't any gun stores in Chicago.
Illinois is ranked #9 by the Brady Campaign. View Comment
Rell created? The legislature has been controlled by democrats since the early 90's. The governor doesn't implement a budget along, he/she can only sign a budget once its been passed by the legislature. View Comment
I find that most anti-gun people are cowards that are terrified of their own shadow. They usually have very low self worth and the fear of guns makes them feel unimportant. Actually they are very sad group. View Comment
Stop it Mrs Nelson! You are not helping us defend the 2nd Amendment when you continue to push these incorrect statements.
The firearm taken from the trunk was a Saiga shotgun. This has been verified by the State Police & the medical examiner said the AR15 was used in the killings, except I believe the killer used a pistol to do himself.

However, this does not take away from the fact that between 2004 & 2011 all rifles accounted for a total of 2 homicides out of a total of 850. There is no need to rush this legislation thru as so called 'assault weapons' are rarely used to commit a crime. View Comment
Its not a gaffe, its the truth. The National Institute of Justice released a gun policy memo on 1/4/13 that finally leaked out. Here's a couple quotes:
"Fatalities from mass shootings (those with 4 or more victims in a particular place and time) account on average for 35 fatalities per year. Policies that address the larger firearm homicide issue will have a far greater impact even if they do not address the particular issues of mass shootings."
"Assault weapons are not a major contributor to gun crime... Therefore a complete elimination of assault weapons would not have a large impact on gun homicides."

I answered the defensive studies claim above.
Show me where in the US any gun restrictive laws have reduced crime. If 30 round magazines are so dangerous, why has there been no statistical increase in the # of deaths attributable to the firearms that use them? All rifles (which include so-called 'assault weapons) have accounted for 2.5-3% of all homicides over the last 20 years even while they have become more popular & make up almost 50% of rifle sales in recent years.
If they were being used so often in crime, why isn't the % going up? From 2004-2011 in CT there were 850 homicides. All rifles (again including so-called 'assault weapons') accounted for exactly 2 of those homicides. View Comment
@sono resident: There have been several studies. The original & most famous was done by criminologist Gary Kleck that found up to 2.5 million defensive uses of firearms per year.
http://www.guncite.com/gun_control_gcdguse.html
The Clinton administration had their own study done which found 1.5 million per year: The National Institute of Justice, in its survey "Guns in America: National Survey on Private Ownership and Use of Firearms"
Unfortunately, FactCheck has proven not to be as completely unbiased as they would claim to be. The article is long & has lots of information, but they show their bias by highlighting certain people or studies as to be more relevant. View Comment
Easy on the psychological projection, Jim.
It seems that most anti-gun rights people are aware of their mental limitations & believe they would just start shooting people if they had access to a gun. They then believe that the same thing must be true about everyone else.
I'm sure there are some fine psychiatrists in the area who can help you over your irrational fears. Please avail yourself of their services. View Comment
How do you plan to reduce the number of firearms to zero without violating the 4th, 5th & perhaps 9th & 10th Amendments?
I suppose you could just wave a magic wand, since that will work just as well as any legal method. View Comment
