Good work great organization. Now if Norwlalk could address its own contaminated sites and sources ensuring the goals that MMRF have set it may be a safer city to reside in.St Vincents saved our family for that we are thankful and will support them and MMRF . View Comment
This was a good article one reason why I surf DV its informative and helps connect the dots with other issues that effect us all.Teaching our kids to get out of Ct to achieve is seems to be the goal. This is why endorsements are important.
NORWALK, Conn. - State Rep. Chris Perone of Norwalk has received the endorsement of the Connecticut Education Association in his race for re-election to the 137th House District and was designated as a “CEA Friend of Education.”
The CEA represents 43,000 members in Connecticut.
“You have consistently proven yourself to be an advocate for children, teachers, and public education

Endorsements are great facts are important
REP. PERONE LAUDS PASSAGE OF BILL CREATING A CONNECTICUT PORT AUTHORITY Rep Perone does mention a container port on his website
This state’s first issue is that the shipping channels are too shallow. The Bridgeport port hasn’t been dredged since 1964. New Haven was dredged in 2004, but the city port authority is calling for another dredging, this time to 42 feet to accommodate larger ships than its current 35-foot depth allows. The New London shipping channel is maintained by the U.S. Department of Defense because of the submarine base in Groton, but the local port authority was reactivated only recently and operates only as a planning agency.
Today, no Connecticut port is deep enough with adequate facilities to handle a container ship, nor is any set up to handle the larger volumes. That could change.
The New Haven port, for example, wants to reconstruct nearby Waterfront Street for better road access; expand its petroleum pipelines; and have direct rail access to the terminal. To pay for it, the port wanted to apply for federal stimulus funds under the TIGER program, but the local authority couldn’t get support from anyone on the state level,
If the state dredging issue is not addressed in the next 20 years, the Connecticut Maritime Coalition estimates the state will suffer a $1.5 billion loss in business output and more than 10,000 marine-related jobs. This includes $101 million in local, state and federal tax revenues.
Its odd how none of the reps talk trains, yet in order to have a plan trains need upgrading, having the funds diverted all these years may not be hurting teachers but its hurting all of us in Ct,
Instead of helping us out in Hartford someone is asking for an increase in gas tax how absurd is this
Because the Connecticut ports are too shallow, large tanker ships delivering petroleum to the state can’t dock at the ports, leaving them to transfer the liquid to smaller ships or unload part of their cargo before venturing into the shallower waters. Both result in increases to the cost of heating oil and gasoline.
Traffic would be an issue in the Statehouse yet If tankers have to start avoiding Connecticut ports altogether, gasoline and heating oil will have to be brought into the state by truck, putting up to 1 million more trucks on I-95 annually, according to the Connecticut Maritime Coalition.
It is nice to see endorsments but what about Ct problems? They seem to grow and not be an issue only at election time and so far I havn't seen any common sense used by our politicians.Nor have I seen any real effort to tell us what the plan is to save jobs along the coast.
Others have now said containers in Ct wont happen, unless the ports rail and highways are worked on and expanded, again its hard to look forewood for a better term in the Statehouse if all of these things are not on the agenda now.
wonder if any of those teachers take the train that would be an endorsement deal breaker given what Metro North has done with the help of the State reps
shame most of us in the city couldn't of been in Dallas to protest and point out what happens to a city where LAZ and Kathryn Hebert have milked the city dry.
Crime in the parking garages and parking have killed the city and she is running around taking awards only in Norwalk can you screw a city show em some art get an award.
Whats Rillings take on all of this?
waste of money maybe? Train station had plans on a shelf any of those used for this study? CDM sucks the life out of municipal budgets its a shame the streets won
't be safer after the work.Norwalk is not a city it tries and acts like one and it fails most of the time.
Himes couldn't get parking at the post office years ago nothing has changed, crime controls parking as well who wants to file a claim after a night out in Sono.
Negative? Read the police reports even the parking garages are not a safe secure place to park in Norwalk anymore. View Comment
This is great news, now that Wall st has taken the lead in bar fights and assaults South Norwalk has its chance to take back the lead. The Wall st planning group needs to look at what its promoting after last weekend. If South Norwalk intends to create another bar scene maybe a triage unit and sub police station would help win the welcome spirit back to Johnny's.
People who are trying to turn a profit on Wall st should video the night life this last weekend brought in police from all over the city to restore law and order. This was probably one reason to abandon South Norwalk the bars closed leaving the bulk of trouble to Wall st.
Read the policy of Johnny's not your typical family dive now is it?Children are expelled after 9,larger beer glasses and shots are prized just what Norwalk needed.
Wall st this last weekend brought a cost to running the city and the taxpayers paid a great deal. View Comment
Thank you for the update now can we somehow send this message to Norwalk officials.
Crime has increased at the South Norwalk train station, fumes from busses are so bad the Norwalk fire dept has actually responded for the smell of fuel(thnk after the second call someone explained 25 busses on the East bouind side could be the problem) and the traffic in a parking lot where the city removed all cabs all five for regular commuter pickups. Now with busses lining the pickup area its become insane.
The Daily does well better than most medias in Norwalk for timely updates for the rail, could we please get some sort of impact report or article on the quality of life for those who live and commute from this station of horror.
Mayors Rillings environmental task force must be busy setting up information on the continued spills and problems Norwalk experiences on a daily basis leaving the train station issue for the media.
Thnaks again for letting us know about the Danbury line even for those who don't take it living next to the station is enough of an impact to worry that no one cares from the city.
Seems the Norwalk Parking Authority is too busy doing damage control on its operation to notice the problem at the train station as well. Some free parking spots outside the East bound side would help for those waiting for trains that simply don't run on time Those busses take a lot or spaces that once was ours waiting for our loved ones. Its a shame Gail cant get the three stooges from Norwalk to back her or at least participate in helping Norwalk out.Saying anything negative at this point is expected at those three but I won't.
Gail is trying she is listening she is speaking out and trying to move in any direction that will help us all out.
Thank you Gail,my familiy depends on the rail and so far you have been the only one vocal enough to calm some of our anger on safety and late trains.
This is progress the police are talking to the press.Report as soon as possible would be a suggestion and rule of thumb with some suspects they don't change shoes but they do clothes.
One year they had a sex offender living at a bus stop that was found by the parents where trouble was brewing, they still have site you can check your childs bus stop?
Thank you Dailyvoice for keeping us informed. View Comment
wait until all guests had had a first serving,
We have helped at the shelter before,it was suggested that some guests take the train in from Stamford and Bridgeport in the morning have breakfast then go to the bridge and wait for day work then go home and return the next day.Thats still no reason for this guy to act this way, after this former resident should be a better description gets out of court maybe he will find another shelter Norwalk has its own who deserve help. Its a story that needed to be told. good point P54 ,are the police waiting for these kids to become seniors before they suggest something like that to the kids?
The only one who seems to care is the media where is the police? Robo calls use to be free once you have the system, does Norwalk still have the system? View Comment
Surprised they didn't drag him near a school as well. This case is still pending maybe by the time it sees a courtroom pot will be legal in Ct and the money he will get won't cover the eye or the job he probably enjoyed.I'm afraid with all the old timers with a lot of class leaving the city will end up with what we are now seeing. This man may just be Norwalks poster for tourism. The story needs to be told, issues like smoke detetctors to law enforcement entering the picture etc is all life.
Who knows maybe next time someone can step in and prevent this from happening again .Maybe the courts will feel the heat, the firemen did.
Maybe this might make you all understand or remind us all what our first repsonders deal with and have to take home after the shift.
Its election time grants are passed out like candy, our politicians couldn't throw some money to fire and police prevention programs?
Of course its disturbing to read its FAIRFIELD COUNTY.
I agree a sad story second thought was what about the husband ,the father didn't care enough or was he powerless.Maybe its time for society to wake up.Can't change the future unless you know the past.No outside signs of this?Who could of done more the courts?the town?
Heroin use epidemic in Fairfield County another great story where are our politicians with the money they love to throw around election season?
This was for a change a subject that needed to be addresed by Chris,it does give Ct a black eye so lets give him credit for attempting to finger the problem and balme.
but we’re not doing enough to change the way we address this crisis.”
We can look at Himes,Perone,Morris and Fluff and wonder with all the PR they are sucking up where is the funding to comabat the crime itself.Norwalk just had a low level bust,Bridgeport and Stamford is doing its best to combat te problem but you have to question what thh other four are doing.
Timing is great for Chris they have the calender marked its spring its time for the gangs to generate income, not the ones in the CT the ones in NY.They travel by rail come into the cities sell some bulk and leave.View Comment
Ken the story gets worse, first the media was told well after everyone goes home in the school dept. They wern't honest the truth didn't flow right so a reporter went and found the police report. This person was seen twice in two vans on the same corner by the girl and other kids two days in a row.Makes it more credible I think.
To Lady a thanks you show us as well they can't do the job they can't put anything together,The Daily becomes a source for prevention they deserve a thanks as well.
The schools were didn't share the same information between them until a day later it seems who ever is running the show is doing a lousy job of it.The robo call would of made to at least those living near the corner with no kids in school aware no one likes scum like this. View Comment
look forward to doing even more with you in the years ahead.”
Not if those in Norwalk or Darien has someone better to send to the State House and do the job right. His focus is on the State not Norwalk not Darien and voters know this.
The mere fact he help divert millions from the transportation funds for other things leaving what Metro North says is a falling apart train system is proof enough its time to find someone who is sensitive to our needs. This climb to the top is self serving from what we have seen so far. View Comment
Tony Daddona you should step down tell us you didn't know this tuesday when it happened.Norwalk has great faith in our schools and our police dept where was robo call where was our mayor and where was the school dept?
We hear money spent on making schools secure and safe when you have idoits running the show where is the comfort.Where is Morris in all this wasting our time with pre election antics when our kids are not getting the security they deserve.
Don't tell us parents for days when we coud of been loking unstead of the seekend press release showing us image over security.
No one shoulf feel our kids are safe when we have this happening by those who tell us its safe we are all opver it.
Shame on those in charge wasn't your kids in danger, sad nothing has changed the last stool at the Inn must be taken by the new boss.
Suppose the perp now has read this and will pick another school bus stop nice work boys View Comment
Jim good news we can't Blame Morris Perone or Fluff for this one,bad news is we can blame you.
Amtrak train No. 173 stalled twice Tuesday on tracks between Norwalk and Greenwich, the second time stranding passengers for hours. As of 6:30 p.m. the train was stalled in Cos Cob according to several passengers onboard.
“They’re moving people from one train to the next in the middle of the track. I’m on an unventilated, immobile train that has been here for three hours,” said passenger Clariselle Ocasio of Bridgeport, just before 6 p.m. Tuesday.
