Boys and girls pitched, hit and ran Saturday in the sectionals of a skills competition sponsored by Major League Baseball. Players from Fairfeld and Westchester competed for a spot in the regionals, which will be held at Citi Field, home of the New York Mets. The regional winners will compete in the national competition at the Major League Baseball All-Star game in July.
The event is similar to football's punt, pass and kick competition. Players were awarded points for the number of strikes they throw, how swiftly they run the bases and how far they hit the ball off of a tee. Sectional winners will be announced next week.
Stamford American Little League hosted the sectionals, in conjunction with Stamford Parks and Recreation.
