Wilton Wahoo Swimmers 2nd at YMCA Nationals

WILTON, Conn. – The Wilton Wahoos finished second in the combined team total at the YMCA Long Course Championships in Atlanta.

The Wahoos finished with 958 points, trailing only Middle Tyger YMCA of Duncan, S.C. Wilton also finished second in the men’s and women’s team totals.

Wilton sent 38 swimmers to the meet, and got off to a terrific start on the opening night when Verity Abel won the women’s 1,500 free. Eric Ronda also won the men’s 100 breast, Matt Moen won the men’s 800 free and Maddie Smart won the women’s 100 free.

Wilton was second in the 400 medley relay with Stephanie Moriarty, Alissa Storino, Katy Luchansky and Maddie Smart. The team set a team and state record, and broke the national YMCA record.

Luchansky, Grace Hendee, Abel and Smart were also fourth in the women’s 200 free relay.

Other swimmers who placed in the top 10 in events included Stephen Holmquist, Max Dolan, Storino, Sam DeLise and Sean Higgins.

Other swimmers who contributed points for Wilton included Caroline O’Brien, Maggie Kaufeld, Jordan Stewart, Olivia Clark, Jordan Berger, Cody Bond, Ian Ronda, Nathaniel Boley, Daniel Krentsa, Brandon Cole, Caitlin Cole, Andrew Higgins, Shannon Ahearn and Morgan Scarth.
