The starting gates open for the 1 3/16-mile race, televised on NBC, at 6:45 p.m. Saturday. It is the 141st Preakness Stakes, which is raced at Pimlico track in Baltimore.

Nyquist, the winner of the Kentucky Derby two weeks ago, is the favorite with 3-5 odds but faces a challenge from 10 other horses.

Rain is in the forecast for Saturday, which could make for sloppy or muddy conditions on the track.

The third race — the Belmont Stakes — will be run on June 5 at Belmont Park in New York.

American Pharoah won all three of the races and the Triple Crown last year.
