Three Fairfield County Hockey Players Named To U.S. Olympic Teams

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. - The players for Team USA Hockey at the Sochi Olympics were announced Wednesday afternoon, with two players from Fairfield County making the men's team and one making the women's team.

Fairfield native Julie Chu, 31, is making her fourth appearance on the Olympic team as a forward on the 21-player roster. Most recently, Chu has been playing on the Montreal Stars in the Canadian Women's Hockey League. She won silver medals in the 2002 Olympic Games in Salt Lake City, Utah, and the 2010 Olympic Games in Vancouver, British Columbia. She won a bronze medal in 2006 in Turin, Italy. 

St. Louis Blues defensive player Kevin Shattenkirk, 24, of Greenwich, will join the men's Olympic team for the first time. In the past decade, he has represented Team USA at the World Championships in 2011 and the Junior Championship in 2009.

New Canaan native 25-year-old Max Pacioretty, a forward on the Montreal Canadiens, will also be joining the team for the first time. Pacioretty played on Team USA in the 2012 World Championships and in 2008 in the Junior Championships.

A fourth Connecticut resident will be joining the Olympic lineup as well. Goalie Jonathan Quick, 27, of MIlford, was also chosen for the team. He played on the 2010 Olympic team that took home the silver medal in Vancouver. Currently, he is playing for the Los Angeles Kings.

The Olympic teams were announced Wednesday after the Toronto Maple Leafs beat the Detroit Red Wings in the Winter Classic game played at Michigan Stadium in Ann Arbor, Mich. The games begin in February in Sochi, Russia.
