NORWALK, Conn. Stew Leonards defeated the Eagles, 6-3, Monday to win the AAA Division championship in the Norwalk Little League.
Cooper Grillo retired nine out of 10 batters in the final three innings and had three RBI to lead Stews. Daniel Miller pitched the first three innings and allowed three unearned runs.
Stews scored one in the first on an RBI by Grillo, and scored four in the second. Noel Vilanova made several key defensive plays for the winners, while Brandon Croswell and Kevin Pascual supported the offense. Jaden Ortiz, Chris Murrales and Tyler LaFranko led the Eagles.
Stews defeated the Norwalk Firefighters, 6-4, and the Eagles, 4-3, in earlier playoff games. Stews finished 15-3 and closed out its season in style, winning 10 of its last 11 games. The Eagles also finished strong, winning 11 of their final 13. Both losses were to Stews in the playoffs.
Players on Stews include Alex Antunez, Brandon Croswell, Dimitri Dassouras, Sean Donnelly, Cooper Grillo, Jalen Garcia, Alistair Morin, Daniel Miller, Jake Pomponi, Kevin Pascual, Joey Snyder and Noel Vilanova.
"I am extremely proud of the entire team for coming together and playing their hearts out the entire season," said manager Russ Miller, who went on to thank his staff of Paul Grillo, Dennis Donnelly and Andy Pascual.
