The Black Knights and Senators each bring a record of 4-1 into the game, which kicks off at 6 p.m. at Stamford’s Boyle Stadium. McMahon is ranked seventh in the latest Class LL rankings, and Stamford is ranked eighth. The loser of Friday’s match-up will face an uphill climb to make the state playoffs.

Both teams are also contenders for the Fairfield County Interscholastic Athletic Conference title. Each of their losses have come to teams outside the conference.

Stamford has been led by a high-powered offense featuring quarterback Jalen Brown. The Black Knights are averaging 43.6 points per game, the fifth highest total in the state, according to statistics from MaxPreps. Brown threw for four touchdowns in a 37-34 win over Staples on Oct. 2, and had two more in an 47-32 win over Ridgefield on Oct. 10. He left the game in the third quarter with a hand injury, and Tyler Serrichio came on and threw another touchdown pass.

Against Ridgefield, Billy DeVito caught three touchdown passes, Tyrell Diaz had touchdown runs of 67 and 74 yards and Serrichio returned an interception for a touchdown.

Stamford’s only loss this season was in the opening game of the season, a 59-40 loss to highly regarded Fairfield Prep.

McMahon has not been getting much attention, but the Senators have won five straight since an opening week loss to Wilbur Cross, 29-14.

Senior running backs Tyre Holeman and Tim Hinton have combined to rush for 11 touchdowns and over 800 yards. Holeman is averaging 11.5 yards per carry, and rushed for 212 yards last week against Harding. He has scored six touchdowns. Hinton averages 6.3 yards per carry and had 164 yards rushing in a 44-28 win over Danbury on Sept. 27.

After Stamford, McMahon still has some difficult opponents in the final four weeks of the season. Among them is St. Joseph, the No. 5 team in the Class M playoff race.

Stamford’s schedule in the final month is less daunting, but the Black Knights will have to get past city rivals Trinity Catholic and Westhill if it wants to reach the state playoffs or FCIAC title game.
