NORWALK, Conn. Rowayton Little League champion Sports Authority will face Norwalk Little League playoff champion Signature Landscaping in the first round of the District 1 Little League All Towns Tournament of Champions. The game starts at 5:45 p.m. Wednesday at Bayley Beach.
Sports Authority won the best-of-five series against Rowayton Pizza, 3-2, for the Rowayton League title. Sports Authority won the deciding game, 12-5. Sports Authority won the first two games before Rowayton Pizza won the third and fourth games.
In the championship game, Andrew Matthews' three-run home run in the first inning staked Sports Authority to a quick 3-0 lead. It was his third home run of the series. Matthews added two more singles and had 11 RBIs for the series. Griffin Root also had three hits, while Ethan Blattman had two hits, an RBI and three runs scored.
After Rowayton Pizza tied the game at 5-5 in the third, Jonathan Miller hit an RBI double and Sam Czaja hit a two-run triple to put Sports Authority ahead to stay. Blattman and Root combined on the pitching duties.
Jack Feinstein had two hits and two runs scored for Rowayton Pizza.
Rowayton Pizza won the third game, 11-1, as Bennett Close pitched a complete game. He also had three hits. Feinstein, James Stefanowicz, Steve Kostohryz, Emmett Towey and Jack Dove were other offensive stars for Rowayton Pizza.
In the fourth game, Rowayton Pizza won 2-1 on a walkoff single by Close. Sports Authority took a 1-0 lead in the first, before Rowayton Pizza rallied with two runs in the sixth. After Jamie Hogan, Theo Coupe and Dove reached base, Stefanowicz hit a game-tying single. That set the stage for Closes big hit. Kostohryz pitched 5 ? strong innings to get the win, and escaped a sixth inning jam when Sports Authority threatened to extend its lead.
