Breaking News: Fairfield County Woman, 40, Sentenced To Prison For Two Fraud Schemes

Souza, Heaphy Accelerate to Rowayton Wins

It was running déjà vu at half the distance in Norwalk on Sunday morning as Wantuil Souza and Julie Heaphy won the Accelerate Your Life 5K, a week after the pair took top honors in the city's Mother's Day 10K.

Norwalk's Heaphy has developed a reputation for finishing high in the overall standings of local races. After winning the Law Day Race outright, she placed fourth in the Mother's Day race, then moved up a slot to place third in her most recent effort.

Sunday's race followed a course through Bell Island and Rowayton. It was sponsored by the Brien McMahon High School NJROTC program. An early morning downpour dissuaded some runners from attended, but those who did enjoyed cool if damp conditions. "It really was great racing weather," said Brad Wellington of Darien, who switched places with Heaphy from their Law Day finishes. "The only thing was the tree petals on the ground made the curves a little tricky."

Souza might have had added motivation to run fast in Norwalk. After accepting his award, he hightailed it to Fairfield and won another 5K there, 13 seconds faster. Complete results of both events are available on .
