Skyliners Sharp in Medal-Winning Performances

The Skyliners synchronized skating team had a medal-winning weekend at the U.S. Championships in Ontario, Calif. The Skyliners, who feature many skaters from Fairfield County, won national championships in the Junior and Juvenile divisions, a silver medal in the Intermediate division and a pewter (fourth place) medal in the Novice division.

The team represents the Skating Club of New York. Its younger teams are affiliated with the Springdale Skating Club in Stamford and the Windy Hill Figure Skating Club in Greenwich.

The Junior team won with a score of 190.85, winning by more than 12 points over runner-up Team Braemer of Minnesota. The Skyliners took first place in the short program and the free skate. Team members include Brooke Abbott and Mairead Brock of Cos Cob; Ashley and Lauren Snow of Darien; and Ashley Mulhern of New Canaan. The Junior team will head to Switzerland for the Junior World Challenge this week.

The Skyliners Juvenile team also won gold in a close competition with the Chicago Jazz. The Juvenile team members include Greenwich's Stephanie Achoa; Stamford's Christine Kao and Christina Landle; New Canaan's Madeline Zomb; Weston's Arielle Belluck; Westport's Katie Orlin; and Norwalk's Kelsey Zarembski.

The Intermediate team finished behind Fond du Lac by just more than three points. The team includes Jordyn Young and Rebecca Wright of Greenwich, Old Greenwich's Marisa Goff, Stamford's Erin Crutchley and Tina Isola, and Westport's Michaela Macdonald.

The Novice team includes Cos Cob's Jordana Adler, Greenwich's Julie Goodfriend and Rebecca Wright, Stamford's Tara Sarkar and Fairfield's Sarah McCarrick.
