After losing two of its first three games, Signature won 14 of its last 15 games. The team, coached by Russ Miller, outscored its three playoff opponents 23-5 and finished the season on a nine-game winning streak.
Signature (15-3 overall) will face Wilton in the District 1 Tournament of Champions on Tuesday at Broad River.
In Thursday’s win, Signature rode the pitching of Cooper Grillo and a balanced offense to victory. Grillo tossed a complete game with three strikeouts and allowed just four hits. He did not issue a walk. Signature also played flawless defense, picking up 13 assists. Third baseman Artie Cocchia had six assists.
Grillo had three hits and two RBIs. Kyle Gordon went 2-for-2 and scored three runs. Daniel Miller had two hits, three RBIs and threw out an Outboost Computers runner on the bases. Andrew Romaniello, Javier Gonzalez and Joe DiIorio also had good defensive games for Signature.
Signature’s complete roster is Artie Cocchia, Joe DiIorio, Javier Gonzalez, Kyle Gordon, Cooper Grillo, Cameron Hurd, Shirley Madera, Danny Miller, Andrew Romaniello, Adrian Santiago and Noel Vilanova. Russ Miller is the manager, assisted by Kirk Gordon, Jeff Cocchia and Paul Grillo.
"The kids played very well together all season long and the pitching and defense tonight was phenomenal. We are very proud of all the kids on this terrific season,'' Russ Miller said.
