Schwartz Law, which finished 18-2 on the season, had lost in the first round of the playoffs but won three straight games to earn the right to play in the final. Alex Caneveri's sacrifice fly scored Sebastian Longo in the bottom of the ninth with the winning run.
CVTSA jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning on consecutive one-out singles by JD Dove, Ethan Blattman, Chandler Greene, and Scott Whalen. Schwartz Law chipped away with two runs in the second inning keyed by Frankie Greco’s two-run double and tied it in the third as a single by Alex Canaveri that scored Jake Osborne.
On the mound, CVTSA’s Chris Cunningham was effective for four innings, striking out two. Canaveri went seven innings for Schwartz Law and was almost perfect after the first inning, striking out 10.
The score remained tied until the top of the seventh inning when Blattman and Greene each singled and Greene ultimately scored the go-ahead run for CVTSA on a fielder’s choice.
Schwartz Law came back to tie the game in the bottom of the seventh as Canaveri doubled to lead off and was driven in one out later on a double by Dylan Longo.
In the ninth, Sebastian Longo led off with a single and stole two bases before Caneveri delivered with his sacrifice fly.
Max Schwartz was the winning pitcher, throwing two shutout innings, striking out four. Whalen was solid in relief for CVTSA, going five innings and surrendering only two runs while striking out five.
