NORWALK, Conn. -- In an early season battle for first place in Cal Ripken's Majors Division, Schwartz Law used stellar pitching and timely hitting to defeat Terzian Trucking, 7-2, last Saturday afternoon.
Matt St. Louis, Mike Macari, Darren Battle and Jason Mandras had RBIs for Schwartz Law, which broke the game open with five runs in the second inning. St. Louis and Jack Feinstein pitched well for Schwartz Law.
Andrew Matthews and Jordan Palmer delivered RBI hits for Terzian. Palmer held Schwartz Law to one run in four strong innings of relief.
In other action, The Batters Box nipped TPT Engravers, 10-9, with a run in the bottom of the seventh. Griffin Root scored the winning run when he ripped a one-out single, stole second and after cleanup hitter Matt Clarke walked, scored on a fielder's choice.
Matt Clarke, Brendan Huertes, Pete Neglia and John Chironna led The Batters Box, which scored three runs in the first inning en route to building a 9-3 lead.
Noelle DeJesus, Chris Van der Els, Kyle Woodring, Chris Restaino, Brian Fermin, Hunter Parks, J.D. Dufort and Ronnie Visiglia contributed offensively for TPT Engravers, whch rallied for six runs in the top of the seventh. Visiglia had the game-tying hit in the top of the inning before Root scored the winning run in the bottom half.
