NORWALK, Conn. Norwalk's Edwin Rosales finished 16th and Claire Turner finished 18th to lead the Bears in a cross country race Tuesday at Staples High School.
Both Norwalk teams were swept in team scoring as they faced some of the toughest teams in the Fairfield County Interscholastic Athletic Conference. The boys lost to Danbury, 15-48; to Staples, 19-40; and to Darien, 15-49, The girls lost to Darien, 15-50; Danbury, 15-49; and Staples, 16-47.
Rosales, a junior, ran 17:42 for the boys 5K course, an average of 5:43 per mile. He was followed by Christian Bonebrake (23rd overall, 18:06); Dashiel Murphy (27th, 18:14); Ian McGrath (28th, 18:17) and Matthew Mason (42nd, 19:46). The Bears, who went 2-1 in their first meet of the season, have a promising future with only one senior, Mason, in the varsity race.
Turner ran 19:51 on the girls 4,000 meter course. She was followed by Jess Sebastian (36th, 22:38), Alex Troetti (39th, 22:45) Yuliya Quinn (52nd, 24:10) and Jessica Balasa (24:40). Complete results are available on clubct.org .
