Girl From Norwalk Club Named To U.S. Junior Rowing Team

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. – Rowers from Redding, Ridgefield, Weston and Greenwich have been named to the United States Junior National team that will compete in the World Rowing Junior Championships from Aug. 7 to 11 in Trakai, Lithuania.

Meg Galloway of Ridgefield and the Norwalk-based Connecticut Boat Club was named to the U.S. Junior Team that will compete in Lithuania in August.

Christina Johnson of Redding, who competes for Saugatuck Rowing Club, was named to the team along with Ridgefield’s Meg Galloway of the Connecticut Boat Club of Norwalk, Jo Gurman of Weston and the Saugatuck club, and Galen Hughes and Melissa Curtis, who row for Greenwich Crew.

Johnson will compete in the Women’s Junior Single Sculls, while Gurman will compete in the Women’s Junior Double Sculls. Hughes is on the Women’s Junior Four, while Galloway and Curtis are on the Women’s Junior Eight.

Rich Caputo of Riverside is the Men’s Junior Pair Spare.

Earlier this month, Fairfield’s Isabel Fitter of the Connecticut Boat Club was named to the Junior Worlds Development Team. She was one of eight girls selected for the Sweep Women’s team. Olivia Clark of SoNo Rowing in Norwalk and Ridgefield’s Kaila Krichko were among four girls named to the Sculling Women’s team.
