Prep's Rog Wins Wickham Race

Connor Rog's first-place finish for Fairfield Prep led the Jesuits to the team title in the cross-country boys championship race Saturday at the Wickham Invitational. Rog's victory paced a strong showing by runners from area schools in the meet.

Rog won in 15:49 on the 5-kilometer (3.1-mile) course. Prep won the meet with 118 points, while Tolland finished second with 125. Xavier of Middletown took third. Darien took seventh in the race, led by John Conley's 12th-place finish.

In the boys seeded race, Staples finished sixth. Jack Roche finished 19th to lead the Wreckers. In the boys unseeded race, Brien McMahon's Chris Madaffari finished eighth in 17:30. Weston finished eighth, led by David Stankiewicz in 33rd.

In the girls races, Staples finished 10th. Ingrid Johnson finished 13th to lead Staples. Westhill's Nicole Ambrosecchio won the race. Staples' Caroline Koenig took third in the freshman race, and Darien's Brian Davey finished fourth and Marshall Huffman was fifth in the boys freshman race. See results of all races here.
