The seventh-grade Norwalk Panthers routed previously unbeaten Mahopac, 36-6, to reach the semifinals of the Candlewood Valley League football tournament.
The Panthers (6-2) again used a total team effort as special teams, defense and offense contributed to secure the victory. The Panthers special teams returned two punts for touchdowns, and another was called back because of a questionable penalty. A.J. Jerome scored on punt returns of 70 and 62 yards for the Panthers.
Malcolm Robinson blocked an extra point, and Jerome kicked three extra points. The defense recorded more than 10 plays that resulted in losses for Mahopac.
Malcolm Robinson scored twice (a 40-yard 1st quarter run and 55 yard third quarter run), and Izaiah Herrnandez scored his first touchdown of the year on a 35-yard first quarter scamper.
The Panthers travel to Newtown Sunday at 11 a.m. for the semifinal showdown.
