After a busy couple of weeks on the local running scene, it turns a bit quieter this weekend with only a few area races for recreational runners.
In Rowayton on Saturday, the 13th annua l Miles for Myles 5K fun run and walk will be held at the Rowayton Community Center beginning at 9 a.m. Registration begins at 8 a.m. There is no online registration. Race proceeds benefit the Myles Beringer Foundation, which directly funds local projects to improve the lives of children. The foundation has raised more than $240,000 and provides funding for pediatric cancer research at Yale-New Haven Hospital.
A newcomer to the race scene is the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society Pineapple Classic 5K at the Greenwich Polo Grounds at 8:30 a.m. Saturday. It's a Hawaiian-themed race with obstacles figure on getting dirty and will have a post-race luau. Find out more information on the race website .
Some runners got an early start to the weekend Thursday at the RFR Realty Corporate 5k Run/Walk in Stamford. There were 1,598 finishers, according to the race website . Geoffrey Williams (16:04) and Sharon Lemberger (17:47) were the men's and women's winners, respectively.
Things get cooking again next weekend with races in Weston, Wilton and Greenwich among the traditional Memorial Day running fare.
