NORWALK, Conn. – Norwalk’s Cal Ripken 12-year-old All-Stars are looking to stay alive in the District 1 tournament Wednesday when they meet New Canaan in the winners’ bracket final at 5:30 p.m. at Saxe Middle School in New Canaan.

New Canaan can win the district title with a victory. A Norwalk victory would force a winner-take-all game Thursday.

Norwalk stayed alive in the tournament with a 9-3 win over Greenwich on Tuesday. It broke open a 4-3 game in the bottom of the fifth, scoring five runs sparked by back-to-back homers by Jordan O'Brien and Cory Acevedo.

Norwalk had taken an early 4-0 lead before Greenwich trimmed it to 4-3 in the fourth. Matt Saint-Louis had three hits, three RBIs and three runs scored for Norwalk, while O’Brien had four RBIs.

Brendan Huertas got the victory, and Griffin Root had two hits and two RBIs. Mike Claps had two hits, and Jack Feinstein made the defensive play of the game to help halt a Greenwich rally.

Norwalk opened the tournament with a 10-4 win over Stratford. Huertas hit two home runs and got the pitching victory with relief help from Andrew Matthews. O’Brien had hits, an RBI and a run scored, while Saint-Louis had two runs, an RBI and two walks. Matt Clarke also contributed several RBIs.

Norwalk dropped into the losers’ bracket with a 10-6 setback to New Canaan. Norwalk led 3-2, but New Canaan rallied to tie it in the third and took the lead for good with a seven-run fourth inning. Norwalk rallied in the sixth and brought the tying run to the plate, but New Canaan shut down the rally.
