Norwalk/McMahon Girl Swimmers Stun Staples

NORWALK, Conn. – The Norwalk-Brien McMahon girls swim team opened its season with a victory. This was not, however, just an ordinary win.

The girls topped Staples, 102-86, the first time in the nine-year coaching tenure that the team has defeated the Wreckers. Using depth throughout its lineup, Norwalk/McMahon won nine of the 12 events. Three swimmers–Stephanie Czulewicz, Lauren Czulewicz and Paige DeLago–won two individual events apiece and were part of teams that swept three relays.

Norwalk/McMahon opened with a win in the 200 medley relay with Alexis Alveris, the Czulewicz sisters and DeLago. The victories kept coming, with Stephanie Czulewicz winning the 200 meter free and 400 free. Lauren captured the 50 free and 100 free. DeLago won the 100 butterfly and 200 individual medley.

Alvarez won the 100 back, while Lauren Czulewicz, Katie Wargo, Taylor Stokes and Ameilia Ornato won the 200 free relay. The 400 free relay of Stephanie Czulewicz, DeLago, Wargo and Stokes put a bow on the victory by winning the final race.

Norwalk's next four meets are home, against St. Joseph, Danbury, Fairfield Ludlowe and the co-op team from Westhill and Stamford.
