The Norwalk Junior Soccer Association Under-10 girls soccer team started its season in typical fashion by winning its first six games of league play.
Blue Thunder opened the season with a convincing win against Darien, 6-0. The following week they traveled to Danbury in what would end up being one of Blue Thunders' most consistent games all year. Norwalk scored all of its goals by combination plays and ended the scoring with a beautiful header in the 65th minute of a 5-0 victory.
The next three games would be the most challenging as Blue Thunder faced league leaders Bethel, Stamford and Southbury. Against Stamford, Norwalk came out aggressive and never let up the tempo as it controlled possession 80 percent of the time, took 15 shots on goal and kept the ball in the Stamford end of the field the entire game. Norwalk won, 6-1. The next week Southbury came into town and before the first half ended Norwalk was winning 5-0 on the way to a 6-1 win.
This past weekend the girls from Norwalk played Bricktown Fury from New Jersey before a soldout crowd at Turcak Stadium in New Jersey. The game was played prior to the Women's Professional Soccer game between Sky Blue and Atlanta Beat.
The offensive standouts were Julia Sferlazza, Mikayla Fosina, Sophia Tarasidis, Jazmine Fred,Cierra Kitt and Peyton McNamara. Defensive standouts were Brenda Garcia, Brianny Garcia, Chloe Ortolano, Ashley Doyle, Lea Panagiotidis and Olivia Leone.
Norwalk is 6-0 on the season and has outscored opponents 30-4. The team will play in Pennsylvania this weekend in the FC Delco Cup.
Tryouts for the NJSA Girls Travel club will be held on June 18 at 10 a.m. at West Rocks Middle School. If you child is interested in playing travel soccer, visit njsa.org for details.
