The women’s team finished in third place and the combined teams finished in 1st place. There were 114 teams and 1,100 swimmers from all over the United States at the meet.
Jake Kealy, of Wilton, won the 200-meter backstroke in a time of 2:04.81, and Robby Giller, also of Wilton, took first place in the 400-meter IM in a time of 4:26.69. In addition, Robby Giller, Will Suchy (Wilton), Hugo Sykes (Weston) and Lexo Walker (Ridgefield) won the men’s 800-meter freestyle relay with a time of 7:45.90, setting a new Wahoo and Connecticut state resident record.
The other national champions from the Wahoos were Ky-lee Perry of Norwalk and Hugo Sykes of Weston, who both won the men’s and women’s 50-meter and 100-meter freestyles, respectively.
Additionally, the men’s 200-meter freestyle relay set a new Wahoo record with a time of 1:36.21. Members of that relay were Lexo Walker, Alex Ignatov (Trumbull), Hugo Sykes and Robby Giller.
Ten swimmers from Wilton competed in the meet. In the women’s division, those that finished in the top 24 included Ellen Holmquist who finished 21st in the 100-meter breaststroke and 20th the 200-meter IM; Emma Holmquist, captain of the women’s team, placed 3rd in the 200-meter breaststroke, 7th in the 400-meter IM, 13th in the 100-meter breaststroke and 8th in the 200-meter IM; Emma Kauffeld finished 12th in the 1500-meter freestyle, 22nd in the 400-meter freestyle and 11th in the 800-meter freestyle; and, Natalie Larsen who finished 23rd in the 200-meter IM. Other women competing in the meet were Ally Bazarian and Leila Hastings.
On the men’s side, Robby Giller placed 3rd in the 800-meter and 1500-meter freestyles and 5th in the 400-meter freestyle; Jake Kealy finished 3rd in the 100-meter backstroke and 4th in the 200-meter IM; and Will Suchy placed 21st in the 1500-meter freestyle, 20th in the 200-meter freestyle and 15th in the 800-meter freestyle. Christian Larsen also participated in the meet.
