NORWALK, Conn. -- ZEUS Swim Team of Norwalk took 22 swimmers to the U.S. Olympic Training Center for a weekend of high-altitude, high intensity training, team building and education. The U.S. Olympic facility, located in Colorado Springs, Colo. is regarded as one of the world’s greatest swimming facilities. It is the first time the ZEUS Swim Team had met all of the requirements and has qualified for access to the OTC.

“This is a very proud moment for Zeus Swim Team. It is just amazing for our athletes to experience this level of professionalism in sports at such a young age. The training, the other coaches and the overall experience has made a lasting impression on these kids,” head coach Omar Cruz said.

In addition to being able to train in a high performance facility, the Zeus athletes had a chance to practice with other teams from across the country. They were able to watch other Olympic sporting events which included international athletes. In addition, Olympic coaches and instructors gave them guidance and a seminar.

Part of the 35-acre U.S. Olympic Complex in Colorado Springs, the Aquatic Center has two pools. It is used primarily for training and testing of the country’s finest Olympic and Paralympic swimmers, pentathletes, triathletes and water polo players.

An overhead catwalk and underwater cameras allow for filming athletes both above and below water for testing purposes. The facility also utilizes other training aides such as a towing system, power towers, climbing ropes and free weights to help maximize training.
