NORWALK, Conn. Trumbull scored two goals within the first seven minutes and went on to defeat Norwalk, 3-1, in the semifinals of the Class LL boys soccer tournament Saturday at West Haven High School.
Trumbull will play for the state championship next weekend against top-seeded Pomperaug. The third-seeded Bears finish the season 16-3-2.
Keith Bond and Zach Chase scored the early goals for the Golden Eagles (18-1-4). Norwalk crept closer on a goal by Nick Zuniga in the 55th minute. Trumbull got its final goal when it was awarded a penalty kick after Bond was tackled in the box. Shay Neary converted for the games final goal.
Norwalk carried much of the offensive play after falling behind, and several opportunities were poked away at the last second. Trumbull also beat Norwalk during the regular season, 2-0. Nick Weinstein made 11 saves in goal for Trumbull, and Svet Kozak made four for Norwalk.
The loss ended an outstanding tournament run by the Bears, who ousted defending champion Farmington, 1-0, in the quarterfinals.
